What to prepare, disclose and confirm so the first session can focus on useful learning.
Before leaving home
Review the written date, time and venue rather than relying on an old message. Pack swimwear, towel, water and any equipment the provider specifically confirmed. Do not bring specialist gear unless the venue permits it.
Tell the coach what changes the session
Share current swimming experience, water concerns, relevant health information and the outcome you want. The coach needs accurate context to select a suitable starting task.
- Arrive early enough to learn the changing and pool-entry process.
- Follow shower and hygiene rules.
- Ask where to stop and how to get attention during a drill.
- Confirm what to practise before the next session.
After the lesson
Record one skill that felt clear and one question that remains. Mild unfamiliar effort can occur, but pain, dizziness or unusual symptoms should not be ignored. Contact an appropriate health professional when symptoms warrant it.
