In brief

What you will learn

  • Equipment follows the learning goal.
  • Fit and stiffness matter more than appearance.
  • Begin with controllable short repeats.

The movement patterns differ

Bifins allow alternating leg action while a monofin links both legs into a dolphin-like wave. Neither is automatically the universal beginner choice.

Choose through a coached fitting

Foot-pocket fit, blade stiffness, ankle mobility and pool rules all affect the decision.

  • Do not buy before checking size.
  • Start with low resistance.
  • Practise stopping and removing the fins.
