The non-negotiable controls for swimming with equipment that binds both legs together.
Use layered supervision
A pool lifeguard watches the whole facility; a mermaid session also needs task-specific supervision close enough to act. The observer must know when equipment is being used and should not be performing a separate underwater task.
Keep a reliable exit
The swimmer practises surfacing, rolling, reaching the wall and removing the tail in controlled water before adding distance or choreography.
- Never swim alone or conceal underwater breath-hold games.
- Keep fabric and hair clear of drains and moving equipment.
- Stop immediately for panic, cramp, dizziness or equipment damage.
- Follow the pool operator’s rules for specialist equipment.
Health and hygiene still apply
Do not enter the pool when unwell in a way that conflicts with facility guidance. Shower, avoid swallowing pool water and follow the operator’s hygiene rules. General guidance cannot replace direct instruction, venue procedures or personal medical advice.
